Continuing our work on moving towards IaC (Infrastructure as Code) we have created a code-based firewall and DNS implementation. DNS is Domain Name System. It is how the internet converts names, like althatech.com, to IP addresses, like 173.212.3.77. DNS is easier for humans to remember. Then the firewall is that endpoint that protects the internal network from the broader internet. We are moving DNS away from a program called Technitium and moving the firewall setup away from PFsense.

In this AI-first world you want things that are easy for the AI to understand, then you work with the AI almost like your assistant. So these two fundamental services are now part of Nixos-Scale. We are testing and continuing in this direction.
The reason this work is important is that once the system is at a feature parity with our old system, then we’ll be able to build on a firmer foundation towards automation. Automating website provisioning, possibly fully automated website creation (Cole at True Freedom Tech has already built a locally hosted working prototype of this), and importantly a minimal user interface for you the customer to manage your services with us.
